History
Castro is a fortified settlement from the Roman and pre-Roman periods on the Iberian Peninsula. The occupation of Castro de Chibanes dates back to the Copper and Early Bronze Ages. Perched atop Serra do Louro in Palmela, within the Arrábida Natural Park, it offers sweeping views over the Tagus and Sado estuaries and the Barris Valley. The site’s natural defensive conditions were enhanced by fortifications built during prehistoric times, later evolving into a complex structure with walls, towers, and bastions during the Iron Age II and III. The Castro de Chibanes wine emerges from the desire to share and celebrate the rich archaeological heritage of the region.
